A Sitka man is being held on drug charges in the state prison in Juneau, pending $12,000 in bail.
A Sitka grand jury on Friday, October 31st indicted 31-year-old Justin Skultka on one charge of Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance in the Fourth Degree, a Class C felony.
According to court records, Skultka was in the parking lot of the Sawmill Creek Cascade Convenience Store on October 27th. When Skultka got out of his car, the officer observed two syringes and a white packet fall to the ground.
The packet was allegedly a fentanyl transdermal system patch, typically used for pain management. Based on information provided by a manufacturer, the high content of fentanyl in the patches makes it a particular target for substance abuse.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, fentanyl is estimated to be 80 times as potent as morphine and hundreds of times more potent than heroin.
Skultka is being held in custody at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center in Juneau on $12,000 bail. According to Assistant District Attorney Jean Seaton, the high amount is the result of Skultka’s previous felony convictions.
