Last Saturday (2-28-15) over 100 Sitkans celebrated the Chinese New Year, marking the annual turn of the lunar calendar and the Year of the Ram. The evening was organized bySummer Xiaoyan Shen and began with fireworks outside Allen Hall. Once inside, students from Mt. Edgecumbe High School performed a traditional dragon dance. Sitka Studio of and Judy Pu Yangxuehe interpreted peacocks. Robin Bhana and her daughters, Angela and Rosie, sang. A group of Sitkans – including KCAW winter fellow Emily Kwong – performed an English-language version of the Chinese tragic love story, “The Butterfly Lovers.”
