Elena Gustafson with Sitkans Against Family Violence (SAFV) is coordinating Girls on the Run, a program trying to empower 3rd through 5th grade girls with healthy life skills and positive self esteem. The three-month program will end in a “One in a Million Fun Run” on Saturday (05-02-15) that starts and ends at the basketball courts at Crescent Harbor Shelter at 10 a.m.
Gustafson was joined by four girl runners – Cymru Ricaporte, Charlotte Unruh, Jade Sharky, and Emily Bernard – who talked about their favorite activities and what they tell themselves while running. “I keep thinking to myself that I can do it. My goal is to finish the race,” said Sharky.
Community members are invited to join in as cheerleaders, runners,or volunteers. Register online here or contact Elena at 747-3370.
