The 2015 full-feature documentary, “The Hunting Ground,” is an exposé of rape on U.S. campuses. Martina Kurzer of Sitkans Against Family Violence and Chris Washko, the Director of Student Success at University of Alaska Southeast, talk about the film and paradigm shift in how universities handle sexual assault in the future.
“The Hunting Ground” focuses on Andrea Pino and Annie E. Clark, two former University of North Carolina students who were raped on campus and led a campaign to file a Title IX complaint against UNC. The film was produced by the same team behind “The Invisible War,” the Emmy-award winning film about sexual assault in the military.
As of January 2015, 94 universities and colleges were under investigation for Title IX violations, a federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex. The University of Alaska system is currently under investigation.
“The Hunting Ground” will be screened in room 229 at the University of Alaska Southeast today (04-30-15) at 6 p.m.
