Ramona Ring is a freelance illustrator based in Hamburg, Germany and one of six Sitka Fellows in residency this month at the Island Institute.
In 2012, Ring landed a major commission from ZEITmagazin (view the series here) and gained a foot in the door to a career in editorial illustration. Currently, Ring is a freelance illustrator and finishing up her master studies at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences.
This summer, Ring is working on a graphic novel about a child growing up in a dysfunctional family. In her Island Institute profile, Ring said, “When I work on personal illustrations, I always occupy myself intensively with childhood and its fears, problems and insecurities. I’ve always wanted to create a longer story out of that, concentrating specifically on that.”
This month, Ring will be doing postcard-sized portraits of Sitkans at the Backdoor every Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m through September 2, 2015. To sign up for a slot, register here.
