Doug Osborne, the Director of Health Promotion at Sitka Community Hospital, announces that the hospital is going tobacco-free today (08-24-15). Now, visitors are asked to smoke outside the property line. That includes the parking lot.
Osborne talks about how tobacco cessation is best achieved with clean air ordinances and higher taxes on cigarettes. “When it becomes harder to smoke and easier to quit, that’s a good dynamic for smokers.” He adds that 20% of Alaskans still smoke cigarettes.
