Kat Richards is one of five candidates running for two open seats on the Sitka School Board. The municipal election is Tuesday, October 6, 2015.
As a community member and parent within Sitka, I see the school board making changes that affect the entire district and community at large. Many of these changes are driven by dollars available for the budget and are legislative driven. All of the changes involve present and future students, district staff, and community members. It is time to become part of the body making these tough decisions.
I feel I owe it to my children and the community to become involved in decisions being made for the district. I owe it to myself to step in and accept part ownership for the district.
I want to be part of the process. I understand the importance of being an advocate and want to be there on the board that has to balance what is best for the students, staff, and parents with what is realistic for the budget and funding, and legislative changes.
Due to the renovation work at Harrigan Centennial Hall, municipal elections will be held in two precincts this year. Precinct 1 is at Grace Harbor Church located at 1904 Halibut Point Road. Absentee/advanced voting will be available weekdays from 9am to 5pm at City Hall (3rd floor) beginning September 21 and will continue through October 5.
