The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for coastal areas of Southeast Alaska, including Baranof Island, from 8 AM to 7 PM Friday, October 9. Forecasters say residents should expect sustained winds of 40 – 55 mph, with gusts to 75. Residents are advised to secure their boats and aircraft, and to be alert for downed trees and branches on area roads for the duration of the storm.
These are the remnants of Hurricane Oho, which turned north week. According the National Weather Service, most of the panhandle will see strong winds and heavy rain from this system.
