Sitka Sound Sac Roe Herring UPDATE, 1:15 PM Sat 3-19-16
The Herring Fishery will be open at 3:15 p.m. today (03-19-16) in Krestof Sound. This is the second opening of the fishery, which began Thursday (03-17-16). 11,000 tons remain to be taken, or roughly three-quarters of this year’s guideline harvest.
The spawn measured on Kruzof Island’s shoreline, north of Inner Point and Mountain Point, has dissipated. At 11 a.m. today, Dave Gordon, area management biologist with ADF&G, reported that spot spawns were visible around Halibut Point and between Big Gavanski and Little Gavanski Island.
