The Sitka Police Department has identified the group of people allegedly shooting at the water off of the Chaichei Islands this past weekend (5-14-16).
Police Lt. Lance Ewers says the group of minors was extremely remorseful about their actions, which caused two nearby snorkelers to have to take cover to dodge bullets.
Ewers says the snorkelers reported the incident to the police on Monday but decided against pressing charges after the group was identified. He says the kids were not thinking about the consequences of errantly shooting firearms but definitely learned a lesson.
“The situation has been resolved,” he said.
Ewers says the police department was able to link the group with the incident because of help from community members.
