Gershon Cohen is helping to organize the Chilkat Challenge Triathlon: an 8-mile paddle, a 20-mile bike ride, and an 8-mile run, all on/along the Chilkat River. The event will be Saturday, July 15.
The race is an effort to raise awareness for the beloved river by having participants navigate a course while taking in the beauty of Haines and its wildlife. The scenic triathlon from Mosquito Lake to Letnikof Cove, is drawing contestants from around the country to partake in the challenge and experience the Chilkat.
“We’re really just trying to celebrate the river. I don’t think anyone would argue, it’s one of the most beautiful places in Alaska,” Cohen said.
