This year, Sika is commemorating the 150th anniversary of the transfer of Alaska from Russia to the United States and exploring the history from multiple perspectives. The Sesquicentennial Speaker series, jointly organized by the Sitka National Historical Park and Sitka Historical Society, began in April and will conclude this month with educational talks on ice and artifacts, love and death.

Sitka’s Sesquicentennial Community Liaison Jeff Budd gives the rundown with archaeologist Anne Pollnow, who will be leading a presentation on fish weirs and other archaeological sites from pre-colonial Sitka.
