Sitkans Against Family Violence (SAFV) is hosting their annual community training on interpersonal violence and abuse this month. The free training takes place from September 9th through 30th, Saturdays and Mondays at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Hall.
Community Coordinator Martina Kurzer talks about what participants can learn from the workshop, including how to advocate for victims. Those who participate in 40 hours of training are become eligible to become a volunteer women’s advocate at SAFV.
According to a 2012 University of Alaska survey, 47% of adult women residing in Sitka had experienced intimate partner violence, sexual violence, or both.
