Sitka Trail Works is launching a $20,000 local fundraising campaign to extend the Cross Trail from Kramer Avenue to the ferry terminal and cruise ship dock. This campaign is a part of a 9% match to secure $1.8 million in federal funds.
“Unless we raise the match, we can’t build the trail. So we’re really reaching out to Sitkans to help us raise that match,” said Sitka Trail Works Director Lynne Brandon. This 2.8 mile extension is “Phase 6” of the Cross Trial’s multi-phase construction, which began in 2006. Construction would begin in the spring of 2019. Designs and permitting are complete.
Brandon talks about the weekend, guided hikes planned for this summer as well upcoming renovation plans for other trails in Sitka.
