Dr. Hans Thewissen is a researcher and author who has spent the past three decades traveling the world, studying whales. Thewissen is a professor of embryology at Northeast Ohio Medical University, and he’s in Sitka for a month-long fellowship with the Sitka Sound Science Center’s Scientist in Residency program.
Thewissen and Will Peterson joined KCAW’s Erin Fulton in the studio to discuss how he plans to spend his time in Sitka. Thewissen will give a talk on March 7, 7 p.m. at UAS, as part of an ongoing Natural History Seminar Series, titled “What Whales Hear, See and Smell: Bowheads and Belugas on Alaska’s North Slope.”
