A crew member of a fishing vessel has died after falling into the water near Yakutat.
Just before midnight on Sunday, Aug. 9, the Yakutat Police Department received a call that a crew member of the fishing vessel Provider had fallen into the water at the Yakutat Seafoods dock. Yakutat police officer Arlen Skaflestad said the man slipped from the ladder climbing down to the vessel. It was dark outside and raining heavily with light winds.
Yakutat Public Safety conducted a search and rescue operation, and a diver recovered 31-year-old Washington state resident Franklyn Fox at approximately 2:10 a.m.
Paramedics and clinic workers were unable to revive Fox. His next of kin have been notified. No charges have been filed, and an investigation into his death is ongoing.
