Sitkan Nancy Ricketts recounts the first 50 years of her life in her memoir Becoming Myself. One of three children of Ed “Doc” Ricketts, the marine biologist immortalized by John Steinbeck in Cannery Row, Ricketts reflects on a sometimes-turbulent childhood in the 1930s, the unraveling of her family, and her first visit to pre-war Sitka as a high school student in 1940.
