When the Sitka Assembly meets tonight (9-8-20) it will consider approving the hire of a new Human Resources director.
The city has been without a permanent HR director for almost a year and a half. The last staffer to hold the post left his position after only three months on the job in May of 2019, shortly after the assembly enacted a hiring freeze and increased its oversight into the hiring practices at city hall by creating a hiring ‘subcommittee.’ That committee was dissolved shortly after the 2019 municipal election, around the time the assembly officially hired John Leach to be the new administrator.
Michelle Murdock is the candidate Leach would like to put in the job. Murdock has been the Human Resources Manager for the City of Unalaska since 2018, and previously worked as an HR manager for LifeWorks in Seattle.
The assembly will also take public comment on its CARES Act funding plan- it approved a budget this summer, but the city administrator has committed to providing the assembly with updates at each meeting.
And in other business, it will consider rezoning an historic cemetery on the Sheldon Jackson campus. And it will consider appointing Ben Hughey to a three year term on the Police and Fire commission and the Parks and Rec committee.
The Sitka Assembly meets tonight at 6 p.m. Raven News will broadcast the meeting live following Alaska News Nightly.
