While many Sitkans headed back to work on Tuesday, Kaycie Coleman and Nick Enloe headed into labor.
The couple delivered the first baby of 2024 in Sitka.
Sonny Marin Enloe was born at 5 a.m. on January 2 at the Mt. Edgecumbe Medical Center, with Dr. Alex Polston attending. Sonny weighed in at seven pounds, and was just under 20 inches long.
Sonny is the first of between 70 and 80 babies likely to be born in Sitka this year. Statistics from the Alaska Department of Health show that in recent years Sitka had a high of 87 births in 2020, and a low of 71 in 2022.
Statewide, there were just over 9,000 births in Alaska last year.
