Search crews spent the holiday weekend looking for a Soldotna man who was reported missing in Sitka earlier this month.
28-year-old Jedidiah Kowchee was reported missing on December 15. On December 22, police released security footage obtained from AC Lakeside that showed Kowchee leaving Orion Sporting Goods around 4 p.m. on December 13, his last known whereabouts.
Search and Rescue teams and volunteers searched for Kowchee during daylight hours on December 23 and 24. In spite of their efforts, his whereabouts remain unknown. A press release shared by the city on December 24 emphasized a “critical need for additional leads from the community.”
Update (12-22-23):
The Alaska Department of Public Safety shared an update on 28-year-old Jedidiah Kowchee, who was reported missing last week. In a press release issued on Friday (12-22-23), troopers now say Kowchee was last seen at AC Lakeside in Sitka on December 13 around 4 p.m. A photo from grocery store security footage is included in the bulletin- it shows Kowchee dressed in a black jacket, light colored hoodie, tan pants, and black running shoes with white soles, and clear framed glasses. Police have asked anyone with information or contact with Kowchee to call the Sitka Police Department at 747-3245 and reference case number 23-00591.

Original report: Alaska State Troopers and Sitka Police are searching for a 28-year-old man who was last seen more than a week ago in Sitka. In a press release Friday (12-15-23), police said that Jedidiah Kowchee was last seen on Sunday, December 10 (12-10-23) at 6 pm, walking down Katlian Street. He was wearing a black coat and hat and khaki pants. Police are asking anyone with information to contact the Sitka Police Department at 747-3245.
