The sole finalist for the Sitka’s municipal attorney position has pulled out of the running.
Annmarie Billingsley has been a practicing attorney in Alaska for 14 years. Six of them she spent as an attorney for the Fairbanks Northstar Borough. She now works in private practice.
Billingsley was one of two candidates the assembly initially interviewed for the position. After advancing her to a second virtual interview on May 9, the assembly invited Billingsley to Sitka for an in-person “meet and greet” and interview at the end of the month. But at a special meeting on Thursday (5-16-24), Mayor Steven Eisenbeisz announced that that meeting wouldn’t happen after all.
“She talked with her family and ultimately reached a conclusion that a move to Sitka right now was not in her favor. So she was unable to continue forward in our recruitment process,” Eisenbeisz said. “So we’re kind of back to the drawing board at this point, and we’ll continue to recruit for a municipal attorney.”
Billingsley was the only candidate currently vying for the municipal attorney position. Attorney Brian Hanson is retiring this summer.
