The Sitka Assembly has a short agenda for its regular meeting tonight (6-11-24). The only item of unfinished business in front of them is whether to approve a change to city code that would allow multiple structures on a single property to share water service.

Current city code requires a separate water line for every building with no exceptions, but the updated code would allow exceptions in certain cases. A memo from Public Works Director Ron Vinson says the change would help in several ways. Sharing a water service line would simplify the building process on some properties, save property owners time and money, and reduce the environmental impact.

The assembly will also consider several proposals for available money in the fisheries enhancement fund. Three organizations applied for fisheries enhancement fund grants. The Alaska Longline Fishermen’s Association requested $20,000 for the Young Fishermen Initiative. The Sitka Sound Science Center requested just under 28,000 to support its hatchery. And the Sitka Tribe of Alaska requested $24,000 for continued operation of the Redoubt Lake sockeye salmon weir

The requests total just under $72,000, but the city has just under $48,000 from the fisheries enhancement fund available to disburse.

In other business, the assembly will consider reappointing Roby Littlefield to a seat on the Historic Preservation Commission, and liquor license renewals for the Bayview Pub and the Sitka Hotel. And it will consider supplemental funding for Visit Sitka.

The Sitka Assembly meets at 6 p.m. tonight. Raven News will broadcast the meeting live, following Alaska News Nightly.
