The Sitka Assembly will hold a special meeting tonight (6-12-24) to determine its next steps as it searches for a new municipal attorney.

The assembly is responsible for hiring two city staff positions– the municipal attorney and the administrator. So far, the assembly has interviewed two candidates for the attorney job. A lawyer from Fairbanks advanced to subsequent interviews, but pulled out of the running last month.

The city’s current attorney, Brian Hanson, is retiring this summer, after nearly a decade with the city. Before he was hired in 2016, he spent 25 years working in private practice.

The Sitka Assembly will meet at 6 p.m. tonight to discuss the city attorney job at Harrigan Centennial Hall.
