The Sitka Police are investigating after a person was found dead Thursday morning near a popular trail in Sitka.
Police responded to the call about 8 a.m. on July 11, when a biker reported finding a deceased person on a rock quarry access road near Yaw Drive. The access road runs alongside a heavily-trafficked section of Sitka’s Cross Trail.
In an interview with KCAW, Police Department spokesperson Serena Wild said that the injuries appeared to be self-inflicted. This is the second death by suicide in Sitka in less than three weeks.
No foul play is suspected, and next of kin has been notified.
