Tonight (7-23-24), the Sitka Assembly will consider on final reading, whether to put two ballot propositions out to voters this fall. If approved in the October 1 municipal election, both would make small changes to city code.
Both code updates have were described by city staff as “housekeeping” measures. The first would eliminate language referencing the former Sitka Community Hospital and a requirement for an accounting system for the hospital. The second would update the city code on recalling an elected official to align with state law. A third ballot proposition that would have removed a requirement for tobacco tax funds to be spent on the Sitka Community Hospital was rejected by the assembly at the last regular meeting.
In other business, the assembly will hear a legislative update from Representative Rebecca Himschoot. It will consider, on final reading, a supplemental funding package for Visit Sitka. And it will discuss drafting a “request for proposals” for a community garden on Jarvis Street.
The Sitka Assembly meets at 6 p.m. tonight. Raven News will broadcast the meeting live, following Alaska News Nightly.
