The Sitka Assembly will interview a former Sitka Superior Court magistrate for the open city attorney job.
At its regular meeting last night (7-23-24) the assembly agreed to interview Sitka attorney and former magistrate Rachel Jones, one of two applicants for the position. The assembly declined to offer the second applicant an interview.
The assembly has been on the search for a municipal attorney since the former city attorney Brian Hanson announced he would be retiring at the end of June. They interviewed two candidates this spring, and advanced an attorney from Fairbanks to two follow-up interviews, but she pulled out of the running shortly after she was invited to come to Sitka for a meet-and-greet. Without any more candidates in the pool, the assembly pivoted to hiring an Anchorage law firm to cover legal services for the city on a contract basis until they’re able to hire a full-time attorney.
The assembly agreed to set up a special meeting to interview Jones tentatively scheduled for Thursday, August 8 at Harrigan Centennial Hall.
