Two out-of-town visitors were treated for minor injuries after being struck by a vehicle in Sitka’s downtown intersection on Monday (8-19-24).

According to a Sitka Police Department spokesperson, a driver was attempting to complete a left turn at Lake and Lincoln streets, just as an oncoming tour bus was entering the intersection. The driver failed to notice two people in the crosswalk, and struck both.

Responders from the Sitka Firehall just a block away were on scene in minutes, and transported the victims – a couple visiting from Australia – to Mt. Edgecumbe Medical Center. They were later released with minor injuries.

Conditions at the time of the accident included steady rain and fog. Three cruise ships called in Sitka on Monday, carrying just over 7,000 passengers.
