The Sitka Assembly is offering the municipal attorney job to Rachel Jones.
Jones is a graduate of the UC Berkeley School of Law, and licensed to practice law in California and Alaska. She served as Sitka’s magistrate from 2017 to 2018. She currently works as the program manager for the Sitka Community Land Trust.
Over the last two months, Jones participated in two rounds of virtual interviews and an in-person community meet-and-greet. At a special meeting on Friday (9-16-24) the assembly went behind closed doors in an executive session to discuss the candidate. When they returned over half an hour later, with little discussion, the group unanimously voted to make a hire offer to Jones.
The city has been contracting legal services since the former municipal attorney, Brian Hanson, retired in June.
