How much money should the city put back in infrastructure reserves this year? That’s what the Sitka Assembly will consider when it meets tonight (9-24-24).

Every year, the city administrator makes a recommendation to the assembly of how much money it should deposit into the public infrastructure sinking fund. That money will ultimately be appropriated to future infrastructure projects.

This year, Municipal Administrator John Leach is recommending the assembly deposit $4 million into the fund. In a memo, Leach writes that the city’s surplus in FY24 exceeded last year’s, even though spending also increased.

In other business, the assembly will consider approving the employment agreement for Rachel Jones. Jones, a former Sitka magistrate, was one of several applicants for the vacant municipal attorney job. After a public meet-and-greet earlier this month, the assembly offered her the position. Per the contract, Jones’s annual salary will start at $162,500.

The Sitka Assembly meets at 6 p.m. tonight. Raven News will broadcast the meeting live following Alaska News Nightly.
