The Sitka Police Department will soon add to its staff. Last night, the Assembly gave a green light to add a patrol officer, a dispatcher and records clerk and a temporary traffic officer. The boost comes after department brass requested more resources from the Assembly.

Sitka Farmers Market begins 6th season

The Sitka Farmers' Market gets started again this Saturday. It happens from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. every other Saturday through Sept. 14. Garrett Bauer and Lisa Sadlier-Hart say the market is now in its sixth season. Multiple payment types are accepted, including WIC and Quest.

Court martial Saturday for Sitka Coast Guardsman

Petty Officer 2nd Class James Grover is charged with nine violations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Three of the charges are for making false official statements. The other six are related to child pornography, negligent endangerment of a child, conduct prejudicial to good order and discipline, and service discrediting conduct.

Contracts approved, but called ‘unsustainable’

City of Sitka employees belonging to two unions have a new contract. The Assembly approved deals with the Alaska State Employees Association and the Public Safety Employees Association, five days before their contracts were set to expire on June 30.
