‘Anstice’ is end of 7 years’ work for local author

In her book “Anstice," Sitka resident Marjean Ragsdale tells the story of a 13-year-old girl named Leyla who has just been orphaned in an automobile accident. The story takes a turn toward the fantastical when Leyla is called upon by a race of aliens to become their new leader.

Group tries to start ‘bag library’ to encourage reuse

Michelle Putz, with the Sitka Global Warming Group, talks about starting a "bag library" in Sitka, to encourage people to reuse fabric bags when they shop, rather than plastic or paper disposable bags. From June 3 - 28, the group is collecting bags at Kettleson Memorial Library, in hopes of starting its own collection for loan.

Ferry’s driver discount gone after winter 2014
