City, Tribal governments share dinner, issues

The Assembly and the Tribal Council meet twice a year in what’s known as a government-to-government dinner. And the relationship between the two groups of elected officials appears to have grown in recent years.

Wounded bears to count differently under change

Previously, bears that were wounded and then escaped were automatically counted as a dead female bear. But the Alaska Professional Hunters Association, whose members include bear hunting guides, argued that in many cases, that’s not true.

Quake’s landslides disturb lake, cause problems for hatcheries

The 7.5-magnitude temblor is believed to be responsible for a landslide into Betty Lake -- one of the water sources for the Armstrong-Keta hatchery at Port Armstrong. Further north, in Deer Lake, avalanches caused by the earthquake are believed responsible for swamping a skiff owned by NSRAA, the Northern Southeast Regional Aquaculture Association.
