Sitka to receive 200+ Narcan kits, drug disposal bags

Naloxone, sold under the brand name Narcan, can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. Lawmakers have been aiding its distribution, making it legal for pharmacies to sell the Narcan over-the-counter. And in Sitka this weekend, a state health official will be training bystanders on how to use the lifesaving drug themselves.

Jeff Davis to partially close until June

Construction on one of Sitka’s busiest streets has resumed. The city will soon close half of Jeff Davis street - from John Brady Drive to Lincoln Street - to general traffic to complete the second phase of a sewer project.

Starting October 1st, Sitka’s electric rates to change seasonally

Sitka is facing a tough balancing act, between meeting their debt service on the Blue Lake Dam project and keeping rates reasonable for low-income Sitkans. Some are struggling to pay their electric bill. To address this, the Sitka Assembly decided to implement a seasonal rate structure. Beginning October 1st, rates will be higher in the summer and lower in the winter, when keeping a house warm and well lit can rack up a big bill.
