After weeks of water woes, Angoon receives Coast Guard assist

Winter cold snaps aren’t just causing frozen pipes and power outages in the lower 48. In Angoon, recent cold temperatures exacerbated ongoing issues with the town’s water supply. The Coast Guard stepped in to help by delivering bottled water to the community of around 450 people.

ANS and ANB host virtual event to celebrate Elizabeth Wanamaker Peratrovich

In 1988, the Alaska Legislature declared Feb. 16 Elizabeth Peratrovich Day in honor of the Tlingit civil rights activist and former Grand President of the Alaska Native Sisterhood. In honor of her work and the work of her husband Roy, the Alaska Native Sisterhood and the Alaska Native Brotherhood are hosting a virtual event to talk about their legacy and how the work they started continues to this day.

Angoon’s water supply under boil water notice

The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation Drinking Water Program issued the notice today for anyone using the Angoon public water system. All water should be boiled for two minutes before drinking it or using it for cooking.
