Feldpausch says she’s not afraid to say “no”

Feldpausch is one of five candidates running for two open seats on the Sitka Assembly. And she says that if she’s elected, she’ll try to ensure that Sitka lives within its means.

Eisenbeisz says Sitkans’ voices must be heard

Steven Eisenbeisz ran for Sitka Assembly last year as a write-in candidate, and he came within 54 votes of a seat at the table. This year, he’s one of five candidates for two open seats. And he says, if elected, Sitkans can count on him to make sure their voices are heard.

Assembly approves sales tax holiday, denies B&B permit

Sitka will be sales tax-free on November 28 and 29, the Friday and Saturday following Thanksgiving. The assembly also waded into a pair of disputes among neighbors -- and said farewell to one of its own.

Christianson says experience is crucial

Thor Christianson has already spent nine years on the Sitka Assembly, last serving in 2013 -- and now, he’s back for more. Christianson is one of five candidates running for Sitka Assembly. If elected, he says he’ll bring experience, a centrist perspective, and a focus on education.

Dancing for two decades

The Naa Kahidi Dancers performed at the Sheet'ka Kwaan Naa Kahidi on Saturday to celebrate the group's 20th anniversary. The Naa Kahidi Dancers were founded in 1994 by Chuck Miller, who began dancing when he was three years old, in the Sitka Native Education Program. "When I dance, when I put on my regalia, it feels like my ancestors are running through my veins," he said.

Youth climate lawsuit dismissed

The lawsuit was brought by six young Alaskans, demanding the state take action on climate change. In dismissing the case, the Court said that climate policy isn’t an issue for the judiciary can decide. But for the young plaintiffs and the nonprofit supporting them, the ruling included some silver linings.

Wamsley wants an economy “made in Sitka”
