Task Force searches for ‘magic number’ to cap cruise tourism in Sitka

Among the Sitka Tourism Task Force's five responsibilities is identifying the appropriate level of cruise tourism in the community. A Town Hall meeting scheduled for 4-8 p.m. December 7 in Harrigan Centennial Hall will present data from an earlier town hall meeting (on November 27), and try to identify the 'magic number' for Sitka.

US District Court finds Kake emergency subsistence hunt lawful under ANILCA

The US District Court of Anchorage has rejected the state's appeal of an emergency subsistence hunt in Kake in 2020. Judge Sharon Gleason wrote that the regulations which allow the federal government to "open public lands for the 'taking of fish and wildlife’ for ‘public safety reasons,’ is valid as applied to the emergency hunt for Kake.”
