Assembly pauses on airport lease to allow for more community input

Sitka’s assembly has postponed voting on a new airport lease with the state of Alaska. When the group met last night (11-28-23) assembly members agreed to hold off on renewing the 55-year contract, at least until the next meeting. DOT considers cutting Sitka Airport hours

The state Department of Transportation has told city officials that budget cuts may mean shorter hours for Sitka’s Rocky Gutierrez Airport. The airport is currently staffed 24 hours a day. DOT is considering cutting one staff member, perhaps reducing operating hours to 18 or 20 hours a day. Read More
